What are you here for?
Pretty tough question to begin our “tea time” this week, huh?
Seriously, do you know—what are you here for?
My sweet friend, God has a simply incredible purpose for you and your life. He is calling you to a purpose that is so powerful and so lovely. YOU!
You may have known it for a long, long time. That is great. Let’s rehearse it today. Let’s take a moment to think back over it. It is designed to set our calendar, our activities, our goals, our dreams, our vision. It is the deal changer!
So, what is God calling YOU to do?
Frederick Buechner gives us a good hint. He shares, “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s hunger meet.” Think about that for a moment. Where is your deepest gladness?
If you think back over your entire life and it all converges to right now, where your deepest gladness is. What is that? How has it changed your life? How could it change the lives of everyone around you? What do you have that the world is truly hungry for? What pain or “hunger” do you see others struggle with?
It is the very pain or HUNGER that you have experienced—most likely it is!
It is that lesson that was your most difficult yet has resulted in the most beautiful comeback story—yep, most likely it is
Think about your own pain and your own hunger for a moment. Do you know where to go? Do you know where to find help for that? Where? What do you know that you would have never known on the other side?
For me, I think it is interesting that God has always used PEOPLE. I think of the people that God used in my life in the middle of big and little struggles. They came at the perfect moment to share from their lives and it was a source of direction, healing, and hope for me. It was a light in the darkness.
I am not alone, this is one theme we see all throughout history and all throughout the Bible. God gives us one another. He wants us in community.
For this reason, it is so important to know who we are and what we are here for.
So, what are YOU here for?
People will follow YOU. People will buy YOU—the real you poured out into your books, your workshops, your services. People will connect in community with YOU.
The message that really moves people comes from pain, struggle, fear, loss, heartache. It is when you get real and let them come in to your life and your story!
It is the story at the end of the story!
It is the breakthrough!
It is the turnaround!
This is why people become “evangelists” for others—they are where you have been, they try what worked for you, it works, they are positioned around others who need your message and they share YOU!
This is God’s design!
This is Jesus’ call and commission for each of us.
This is how the principles of the kingdom affect this world!
Take a few minutes to consider:
What do you have to offer?
A message—what would you tell them? What is your message from the other side? The things that you just wish that you had known from the beginning?
Your gifts—what is your default? What compels you? Are you just compelled to teach? Encourage? Organize? Lead? Serve? You SEE the problems. You SEE the pain. You SEE the struggle. What do you bring into situations just by who you are?
Your experience—what have you directly observed or what have you learned in the midst of your struggles or pain? What can you share with those who are walking through it now?
Your skills—what can you do that can directly shift things? What skills do you bring to the table that can help others push past their pain, struggles, obstacles? What makes you different from others?
Your expertise—which skills or knowledge do you have on the other side that you can share with others to make it easier for them or faster for them to get to the other side?
Your heartbeat or passion—what force drives you? What inspires you? What do you want for others?
Your story—what is your story? That story that can inspire others and help them to see beyond where they are today into where they can be?
Your empathy—how do you feel about where others are? How do you identify with their situation or their feelings or the position that they are in right now?
Your ideas—what ideas do you have for them today? What plan would you suggest that they consider? What is the purpose or the goal or the next step? What do you see that they should see?
Your voice—what do you wish they could hear? What would you want to speak into their lives? If you could only share one thing—what would it be? Find your voice and you will have a story and world shaking, thrilling community!
What makes your heat beat WILDLY? What are you HERE FOR? What do you WANT to do? What is it that you want to be known for? What do you have to offer?
You have treasures that you can share with others to make their journey better. They NEED you!
What are you here for?
Today, this is an invitation to a conversation with God.
So, set your face upon Him. Grasp on to all Jesus died to give you. Ask God what He means by every little thing that you are hearing—ask like a CHILD!
Find your voice and you will have a story and world shaking, thrilling community!
What makes your heat beat WILDLY?
What do you WANT to do?
What you are to be known for—YOUR STORY, YOUR MESSAGE, YOUR LEGACY!
What are you HERE FOR?
You are here for such a time as this. Meditate upon these words from Ephesians:
We have become His poetry, a re-created people that will fulfill the destiny He has given each of us, for we are joined to Jesus, the Anointed One. Even before we were born, God planned in advance our destiny and the good works we would do to fulfill it!
