How was your weekend? Mine was full to overflowing. I am working on my Master’s Degree and this weekend, my reading (and writing) was very very demanding, but so good! As I woke up this morning and evaluated last week and took my plans for this coming week to the Lord, I kept hearing Him speaking to my heart, “Lead Well.”
Oh! Those words!
Lead well
LEAD well
Lead WELL
Oh! I know from the depths of my heart and soul what that means. Over the past few years the Lord has been teaching and instilling in me the importance of leading myself well.
I am my own worst enemy.
Whereas I have an amazing drive that is a wonderful catalyst for pushing through tough obstacles and getting A LOT done, its dark side is that if I don’t lead myself well, I will push myself into the ground.
Whereas I have a passion for the hurting, broken, wounded, lost person, its dark side is that if I don’t lead myself well then I inevitably move into my “helping” or “fixing” mode and forget that being the arms and voice for the Lord is what is really needed.
Whereas my personality is a splendid blend that desires to connect, commune, and journey with others, if I don’t lead myself well then I also forget its dark side that doesn’t like to confront and challenge when that is often the one thing that is needed to truly help.
Whereas I love to work and minister and learn, the darkside is that if I don’t lead myself well then I get into the place that I cannot do any of those things well. I get in the same flurry of activities and to-do’s when I step out there on my own without sitting at His feet first for His way, His priorities, His will, and His plan for my “right now.”
I could go on and on!
The biggie that I am hearing God say this morning, is that leading well means that I never forget my strengths or my shadows. It also means that I intentionally find the “still waters” along the path ahead.
The goal is not the thing that needs to be done. The goal is to draw close to the Lord and bring others along with me to sit before Him.
The goal is not the strategy or the tool. The goal is to use all of the methods and resources to step into the call before us.
The goal is not to build our own monuments, businesses, ministries, or kingdoms for ourselves, but to build the kingdom of God.
This takes leading ourselves well. It means that we know who we are and whose we are. It means that we believe that we can do what He says we can do, but we don’t step out beyond that into what we “want” to do. It means that we have an immovable belief that He is Who He says He is, that He can do what He says He can do, and that He will do it for us! It takes daring to trust Him and do it all the way that He says to do it.
He has a beautiful plan for you and me. I love the passage of Scripture in Jeremiah 29:11 (well and a few more verses beyond that). I think my favorite version of that is from The Message. Here it is:
“I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for. When you call on me, when you come and pray to me, I’ll listen. When you come looking for me, you’ll find me. Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed.” God’s Decree. I’ll turn things around for you.”
Without exegeting Scripture, I want for you to know that this is a Word for you today. God is WITH YOU. He wants for us to come to HIM. That is the sweet spot where we are to be. He has so much prepared for you and me. It is beautiful. He has a plan.
- A plan that takes good, good care of you.
- A plan that includes the future you have hoped for and SO MUCH MORE!
- A good plan for you turns around and makes sense of all of the things that have ever gone on in your life that have caused you pain, heartache, and struggle.
- A good plan gives you the hope that has been stuffed away.
- A good plan wants to pull out into reality those dreams you barely let cross your mind before you tucked them away.
- A good plan gives you life, purpose, and life purpose. His good plan.
Today, why not join me sitting at His feet. It is where I lead myself. He never fails.
Not sure what this looks like? Well, we have an amazing day ahead!
